This is an interesting walk with great views, but it is not easy, as the track is hard to follow at some points and the descent to the river is very steep and loose. “Bring your own firewood” is not very feasible - but you should be able to scrounge some within a reasonable distance of the campsite. For drinking water you can use the good water from the river but best to boil to be on the safe side.

Spend the night, right on the water, bit fast for swimming. Nice quite sites, plenty of room.

GAMBELLS REST UPDATE - DEC 2010

* Camp fires not permitted. There are free gas BBQ facilities at the campsite, or bring your own.

* There are normal flush toilets. The pit toilets have been replaced.

* air mattresses are highly recommended.

Don’t even bother trying to walk this track!!!

I made it to the campsite yesterday, but had no hope of walking out. I waved down a passing boat that took me to Spencer. The first 8km is ok on the fire trail and can be covered in 2 hours. The next 2.2km is a Wallaby track that took me approx 5 hours of bush bashing to get to the camp ground.
